The 2008 kernel summit group photo

This is the group photo from the 2008 Linux kernel summit, as taken by LWN editor Jonathan Corbet. There is a professionally-done photo in the works which will become available eventually; until then, this will have to do.

As I only recognize 12/83 and could name only 10/83, could Your Editor perhaps please annotate who is pictured?

I'd like to do an annotated picture; certainly that has been well received in past years. Honestly, though, it won't happen before next week at best.

Vinod Kutta (??) is next to Michael Kerrisk

Miklos Szerdi is 4th, next to willy.

Tejun Heo is 14th, next to Kay.

I _think_ that's Chris McDermott next to Richard Purdie, but I don't know who's 4th in that row.

Takashi Iwai is 7th, next to Peter Z.

I think 10th, next to Jean Delvare is Dmitry Torokohov (sp?), the input maintainer.

Whilst I am impressed at your ability to offend an entire gender and a sexual minority in the same comment, postfixing 'just kidding' doesn't give you a free pass.

I am equally impressed by your ability to find offence in a mere factual statement.

Fact: Few women are kernel developers.
Fact: Gays are men. (Hint: The female ones are called lesbians. Gender neutral term: homosexuals)

Considering this, why do you think it offensive if a male dominated group is (clearly as a joke) described as "gay party"?
Do you not like gays? Do you not want to be associated with them? Do you think being gay is offensive to others? ;-)

BTW: The gay parties I have been at looked quite different to this picture... :-)

This is the best picture ever because the organizer of the photo has every spread out enough to see EVERYONE's face. No blocked 1/3 faces. It highlights how everyone works together.

The 2008 kernel summit group photo

This is free software, nicely egalitarian. There are no girls, and
(almost) no women. :(

(I think everyone wishes they knew why this happens. I think I may work
with more women in my proprietary-software job at work than *exist* in the
entire free software field, and it's not a terribly large company :((( )

(aside: am I the only person who finds 'girls' used to describe adult
women rather offensive? You wouldn't call a thirty-year-old man a 'boy',
after all... it has implications of long-term childlike dependency and so
on. One wonders how anyone can think this way: didn't they have mothers?)
